Quarter 4

The activity was the goat eyeball dissection. In this activity we had a life changing opportunity to open the eye ball up and take a look at how things looked. We were given a sheet of paper with specific instructions on what to do. In this experiment my partner and I had the chance to see the cornea, retina, Aqueous humor, pupil, sclera, vitrous humor, optic disk and optic nerve up close.

The purpose of this activity was to get a better view of how the eye looks. We have been learning about all the parts of the I and what they do in class. It was fascinating to know what every part of the eye was called and what it did when I was dissecting it. This dissection change my whole perspective of the eye. I had know idea what it looked like from the inside.

In this activity I leaned that the eye is very durable. I also learned that it was very hard to cut through the sclera. I learned that the lens magnifies letters. During the experiment I was able to use the lens to read words on a magazine. I also learned that once you cut trough the sclera the Aqueous humor gushes out of the eye.

I could have learned differently if I dissected a different type of eye. For example if I dissected a frog’s eye it would be different. I could have learned more if I went on you-tube and watched videos on how to dissect a goat eye. Over all I think I have a much greater understanding of the eye now because of the dissection.

This particular activity did not relate to my goal, but it might in the future. Maybe my goal for next year will be to get in to A.P science. This year none of my goals related to science directly, but this assignment helped me towards getting honors which is one of my goals.
