The activity was my SMYLE on electronic skin. For those of you who don’t know what a SMYLE is it is “Science and Math in YOUR Life and Environment”. In a SMYLE you must find an article and read it, then relate it to science and math. The SMYLE has many guidelines; you must follow to get a perfect mark. Twenty percent of the marks for the paper is a paragraph about why you picked the article and why it is meaningful to you. The next part of the paragraph of the paper is all about what you have learned from the article. That part is worth 40% of the grade. The next part is the most important in my opinion;you must create a paragraph relating your article to science and math. This component is worth 20% of you the SMYLE. The next part to creating a SMYLE is adding your citation. At my school Dhahran elementary Middle school we use MLA to cite our sources. The citation is worth 10% but if you don’t add it you will get an automatic zero for plagiarism. Last but not least spelling and grammar counts for 10% towards the final grade for the SMYLE. I would just like to add that this method was created by my wonderful Science
teacher Mrs.Zahid.
The purpose of this activity is to show use the studentsthat there is science and math all aroundus even if we don’t know it. Just about everything in the world has to do with science or math. This method of teaching makes it fun for the student to learn. This activity really helped me gain a lot of knowledge that I will use all throughout the rest of my life.
I learned that a device called the electronic skin could potentially save lives. There are many uses for this device; it can record brain waves if it is placed on the four head. It can record blood flow if it is placed on the wrist. It can even be used as a secret cell phone when placed on he throat; it can be activated by the person’s vocal box. This is quite a remarkable invention because it does all these things and more. The electronic skin also records muscle movement, and temperature. It does this by wirelessly transmitting it to a computer. I also learned that this device can also be used to alert hidden problems in a patient during surgery. This chip has the potential to save millions of lives. As time goes on there will be more and more advancements in the electronic skin. This chip can improve our way of life, our health, and safety. This device can improve our ability to prosper in this little green planet we call earth. It is hard to believe that a microchip the size of a postage stamp can do as much as it does.
I could have learned more if I searched the web about identical inventions. I also could have read different articles about life saving inventions. Over all I think I learned as much as I possibly could because I read the article the day after it was published so there must have not been a lot on the topic. New inventions don’t typically l have more than one article after the first day published.
This activity did not relate to my goals but it might in the nearby future.
