A scientific notation is a method for expressing a given quantity as a number having significant digits necessary for a specified degree of accuracy, multiplied by 10 to the appropriate power, as 1385.62 written as 1.386 × 10 3 . In the real world we use scientific notations a lot. For example we use scientific notation to calculate how far away we are from other planets. Scientific notation is usually used when you when writing very large numbers or very small numbers. Many jobs require you to use scientific notation such as engineers. They must use it when recording pressure, data, and how much of the substance is in something. We also use scientific notation when calculating large weight and light weights.
Example of uses of scientific notation
